Happy 1st Birthday, Riley!

Riley turned one yesterday, and got to enjoy her birthday on a camping trip with Tom. I barely got to see her on her special day, but I do have a heartwarming birthday story to share. I am long term subbing in my old classroom right now (5th grade) and one of my students did the sweetest, most thoughtful thing ever last Friday. This student has her own golden at home, and we often share stories about our dogs. She remembered that it was Riley's birthday, and she had asked me earlier in the week whether Ry liked rubber bones. I said that of course, she chews anything and everything that she can fit in her mouth. On Friday, my student arrived at school carrying a gift bag. She handmade and decorated a beautiful card, from her - and her dog. She included in the gift bag two 'gently used' dog toys that her dog, Sophie, didn't like. Riley, of course, is obsessed with the new toys (probably because they already smell like dog) and I am left completely overwhelmed by the kindness and thoughtfulness of an 11 year old!
