close call

No photos today - just a quick story! On Wednesday (which was cold and rainy, in case you don't remember) Riley and I left on our evening walk at about 5pm. We did our beloved 'park loop' where we take the path down to the parkway, and then head up the hill by the church. We get to the (busy) intersection by the church, cross the street, and all of a sudden, I feel no more dog pulling on the leash. Months of her chewing on her leash finally caught up and she ripped the leash in two pieces! She took off, and I finally coerced her back with lots of treats. I was, however, still a half mile from home, and Riley doesn't much like having her collar touched. I basically dragged her by her collar all the way up the hill, until a very kind neighbor picked me up and brought us home. I hope we didn't stain her car too badly with Ry's muddy paws. My back is still sore from walking completely bent over dragging a 50lb beast, and I have little bruises all up and down my wrists from her biting me as I held on to her collar. She got a brand new leash on Wednesday... so we should have at least a few months until this happens again!
