Three Things Thursday
Another non-dog related post... but here are three things on my mind, in no particular order...
1. Spring! Today is the first day of spring - the sun is shining, the snow is melting, and of course I'm coming down with an end of winter cold. But, even a cold is better when it's not so, well, cold outside. It's been great getting the dogs out for longer and more enjoyable walks, although two of those walks have ended with dragging Huck into the bathtub. His fur is a dirt/sand sponge. It's nasty. And he hates the tub. Hence, no photos. One of my favorite parts of Spring is spring break, which is one week (and one day) away. Tom and I just planned a last-minute getaway to Colorado. Not quite the same as our Hawaii trip last year, but it'll be great nonetheless. He had to go for work anyway, and we'll get to squeeze in visits with my family and some of our friends.
2. A new house. This month marks another year spent in our (tiny) Robbinsdale house. I don't know how many years exactly, but enough that I've lost count. Tom and I have started online house hunting, although we won't likely move until next spring. We haven't bought a house together before, so we're trying to figure out our must haves. Location has been tricky, too. We love South Mpls, but that would make for a very long drive to work for me. It would be nice to be close to work, but I don't necessarily want to be so close that I run into my students when I'm at Target in my jammies. I think St. Louis Park is my top pick right now.
3. Second Grade! Next Fall I'm making a grade level switch. Sixth grade is moving to the Junior High (will be Middle School) after next year, and I'm not waiting around to see if there's an opening for me at that point. I have only taught 5th and 6th grade, so this will be a big jump and quite the challenge, but I'm super excited about it! My new team has been super welcoming, and I have lots of great ideas already! I'm definitely ready for a change, and am looking forward to not dealing with the 'biggest fish in a small pond' anymore. I'm sure there are things I will miss about sixth grade (like our super awesome 2-day outdoor ed field trip, and sheep eye dissection science unit) but I'll find new favorite activities with my little peanuts. Second graders are little. And cute. I think I'll like them :)
